Hiking

We went hiking this past Saturday at Mission Trails (a.k.a. Dragon Mountains). Koen used to really be into dragons, still is kind-of, and once before we pretended that dragons lived in the hills and we would have Koen watch and keep a look-out for caves where dragons might be hiding. Well, ever since then, Koen (and now Emileigh too) has affectionately called it Dragon Mountains. He still believes that dragons are real and he continues to keep a safe watch for them while we hike through the trails. He has to grab a stick before we start our hike so he can 'protect' us, just in case. Of course, Emi has to do everything her brother does so she has to have a stick too.

As we were on a trail, Koen noticed a large imprint in the dirt and immediately pointed out that it was a dragon's footprint. Here, Emileigh was poking it with her stick.

There is this crazy tree there that has grown in an arc and then continued growing by following the ground in a horizontal fashion, completely defying rule #1 for trees (if they did have rules). It's the perfect height for little kids to crawl under.

What a cool tree! You are a good mom, braving the heat to go hiking with your kids. The heat is killing me - I'm sure it must be tons worse down there.

Looks to me as though that tree was once part of a dragon's tail--you know how lizard's sometimes drop part of their tails to escape. I bet that old dragon saw Koen ready to protect his family and plunk, that tail was history!
